Respite fostering pugs and doing a terrible job at taking over the world

Dear Diary 02: Maybe the best white noise machine is a snoring pug.

Last week I said I would be back and it seems a little early to break my blogging streak (of one week), so here are a few things that have happened since then:

🐶 See you later Fiona, and hello Stanley! Fiona, our first respite foster with DFW Pug Rescue, stayed with us for four days while her foster parent was out of town. She was so different than Topper (the pug we long-term fostered) yet there are some behaviors that we're starting to think might be Typical Pug Behavior. She's a very large girl with very large noises, but very polite, respecting our personal space and putting up with Nugget growling at her. (Nugget takes a while to warm up to other dogs.) We're watching her again in a few weeks, and I like the thought of her knowing us already.

Not even 24 hours later, and we have another pug! I picked Stanley up this afternoon since his foster parent is going out of town. Poor guy was vetted yesterday and in addition to being neutered, he had nares surgery and some teeth removed. His foster mom picked him up from the vet this morning and hours later, he's with me, a total stranger, but he's been such a champ! He's smaller than Fiona and because of the nares surgery, he's the quietest pug we've taken care of so far! He's not on the rescue website yet since he just got vetted, but I will add a link to him later because he is going to be a perfect pug for someone who wants a chill li'l shadow.

This is the face of a fully vetted pup, Stanley!

👾 Ariel loves to play Crusader Kings 3, and I finally felt some FOMO... but not enough to buy my own copy, so I downloaded Crusader Kings 2 since it's free. It's only $5/month for access to all the DLCs so I went ahead and hopped on board and lolol, I should've waited to pull the trigger on that because I am stuck on the tutorial. It's not very "hand holdy" so now I understand why Ariel watched so many videos about the game. I'm supposed to send my fleet to attack my brother, but how? Throw me a blinking icon or giant arrow, Paradox!

If you've never heard of Crusader Kings, it's because you must not live at the intersection of History Nerd and Grand Strategy Gamer. There's a lot of reading and making choices involved, but from what I've seen, there's also a lot of scheming and warring and incest. How else are you supposed to become a king or queen? Quite a reminder of the "sanctity of marriage!" If you are intrigued, here are two videos from one of our favorite streamers, Jillyeon:

I still haven't gotten used to the time change so it doesn't feel like midnight, but alas, it is midnight and Stanley is happily snoring, so I'm going to head out for now. If you have any CK2 tips, let me know! Maybe I'll get through the tutorial soon. 🥲
